I am also a huge otaku. I’ve been for about the same amount of time as Yu, maybe a little less. But that doesn’t mean I have any more of life than her! I suppose you could say I’m in my 17th year in Homeschool, and I also enjoy Roleplaying, Drawing, collecting figures. Also video games, and cosplay (of course)

That’s right, Yuri’s adventures continue. Same old feel, but new plots await. Just as you’d expect a series running this long to go dry, they grab your heart, tear it out through your eye sockets and then brutally beat it in front of your eyes. But… don’t worry, in a good way.

Though now that Yuri’s parents know openly, it is a little weird feeling, but it’s adorable to see how excited Jennifer gets over her new son-in-law-to-be. The relationship between Yuri and Wolfram is still slow, but still blossoming. Which is refreshing to see that in a world overflown by Yaoi, and meaningless relationships going instantly into the fanservice, they’re slow, somewhat still in denial relationship still takes it’s time. Sure everyone would like to see them kiss someday, but I personally don’t want it to be forced and faked like a lot are (the kiss in the OVA doesn’t count because it wasn’t even Wolfram, nor was it emotional or wanted…. you didn’t even see it)

Now, I’ll resist making this a very long post because, if I do, it’ll let too much out. And as early in the season as it is I really don’t want to do that.

On the outside, this game seems overatted, with a shallow excuse for characters and mindless, pointless gameplay such as Blitzball. (Which I hate as much as the next guy, but I can admit it seems to give it a more life like feel. Like how we have sports in our world.) And as much as I may get in trouble for posting about this (Yushi hates FF >_>) I felt I had to share my experiences with it after the third play through, and what seems to be my current obsession.

Originally, I liked the game just cause it was a new FFX and had cool graphics, of course I was about 11 at the time. Then I grew up and joined the bandwagon of haters, because it did just seem like an empty plot. But now that I’ve matured and have played it over again, paying much more attention than the last couple times I can tell you it isn’t overrated as far as story goes. There’s a lot of things I don’t like about the fandom, but that’s just it, it’s just a fandom. So let’s get into the more deeper parts of the game shall we?

First, let’s get Tidus out of the away. Annoying whiny brat? or just a kid who’s frustrated with his drunk dead beat dad? Well… it’s a bit of both. But paying more attention to his background, I can understand WHY he’s the way he is and can relate to him on the whole father loathing issue. Sure I still can’t stand him, but I respect him a helluva lot more.

Yuna, really isn’t as annoying in this game as a remember her to be. She’s noble, stubborn and polite. Rarely whines, and does everything for herself never asking for help. I remember I used to compare her to Shana from the Legend of Dragoon as far as useless, whiny characters went, but now I see she’s far from it. The only thing really similar is their hairstyle. FFX-2 is what ruined Yuna’s image. Cause let’s face it, the pop idol Charlie’s angel? That ain’t her. Even two years of hate and regret towards Yevon wouldn’t do that to someone like Yuna.

I can’t tell if I like or hate Wakka, he really goes back and forth for me. Lulu has to be one of my favourite characters, and I just want to hug Kimahri. Auron seems like the wise old Bard of the game in a warriors clothes, and Rikku, though annoying again, is WAY different compared to x-2 version that killed her image.

I could tell that Yevon and the Yevonites (heh, sounds like a silly band name) seemed to portray the struggle with an average person and Christianity. Though I know a lot of people would probably disagree with me on this, or call it disrespectful and mean to *gasp* say something bad about the most popular religion in the world. I just have to bring it up. The lies, selfishness, twisted teachings that change however way they wish just so it can be more convenient to control the world strikes far too many similarities for me. They don’t let you do much, even if it’s good, just because the teachings say so. You’re looked down upon if you’re different or do something they don’t like. They even have the typical Bible thum- er. Yevon thumping young preacher, Miss Shelinda. And let’s not forget the biggest clue…. Sin.No set amount of them, no disguising it. It’s just bluntly called Sin. And of course, they have to go and blame humanity on Sin’s appearance instead of just having an unexplained tragedy like life is full of. Coincidence? I think not.

Religion rant aside, though the game seems like it has just a bunch of confusion and randomness, and at first the ending just seemed like you were left with something that didn’t make sense and left an open plot hole. When you pay more attention you understand it a lot more, and see that it really does have significance. Though still confusing to a point, not everything has to make sense all the time. That’s life after all, isn’t it?

Only not really. So I started watching Lucky Star a couple of months ago because it just seemed so intriguing [you're looking at a hardcore Azumanga Daioh fan]. Though I am sad to say I’m late on the Lucky Star hype.

Lucky Star is mixed with pointless conversations, numerous anime references [mostly of Haruhi Suzumiya], and its just ‘moetastic’! What is moe, you wonder? Watch more anime. XD [And no, I don't think Kyoto Animation relies on 'moe' to be popular]

So the first episode was cute. 10 minutes of asking each other how they eat certain foods. For a while it was cute but then it kinda got old; I stopped watching for a while. But I’m glad I continued and finished it, it was truly well done. I have to say that this anime is for any ‘otaku’ or someone who has patience. Though this doesn’t exactly have an Evangelion plotline, just the fact its full of many different references to many different anime makes you able to relate to it. Konata, one of the main characters, is your average otaku, ready to talk about dating sims, late night anime shows, card games, Haruhi, and will even recite every Pokémon.

I think that people were disappointed in Lucky Star because they stopped at the first episode thinking it would be the next Haruhi. Even though they were both from Kyoto Animation and the fact that the advertising had Konata and Haruhi made people think it would be just that. But they were wrong, so I’m sure it rubbed the wrong way on them. I, on the other hand, wasn’t so disappointed on account of not seeing all the advertisements, so I was safe. But I don’t see how people can just bash the anime when they only saw episode one out of twenty-four. I mean, most of the time in anime the story hasn’t even started then. They already have so much to introduce.

With Lucky Star, it was more of just people living their life.. I mean I’m sure you have gotten into some wierd conversation that has gone on for a while with your friends, no?

What is an Asian Ball Jointed Doll, you ask? (haha rhyme) The trend actually starting out in Japan, An Asian Bell Joint Doll are made so they’re posable and infinitely accessorize-able [yeah its not a word]. You can change from their wig to face, to hands, to feet and so on. Actually, the detail on each doll is so sublime that it seems to have a soul.

These dolls aren’t cheap though D: They can go from $300-$3,000. But for me they’re worth it xD And for other people with the same hobby its worth it. This is hardly the MOST expensive hobby, I.E. Cars, etc.

I am rather biased to which dolls are the best. I’m a Dream of Doll fan, but the leading company is “VOLKS” Who came up with the name ‘Super Dollfie’. Here’s a pic spam.

TOKYO (AFP) – Tibet’s spiritual leader the Dalai Lama started a tour of Japan Thursday to speak at sold-out crowds but is getting a cold shoulder from the government, which is trying to improve relations with China.

A crowd of supporters bowed their heads in respect as the maroon-robed monk arrived at Narita airport near Tokyo to start his 10-day visit at the invitation of a Buddhist group.

The Dalai Lama, who last visited Japan a year ago, will tour the holiest Shinto shrine of Ise, address public forums on spirituality and visit local schools.
But the Japanese government has said that no officials will meet him and that it allowed the visit on the condition he not engage in political activities.

Unlike in many of his previous trips, Japan is not offering any security for the Dalai Lama, forcing the Nobel laureate’s office to hire private bodyguards. China, which sent troops into Tibet in 1950, opposes the international travels of the globetrotting Dalai Lama, accusing him of agitating for Tibetan independence.

The Dalai Lama, who fled for exile in India in 1959 amid a failed uprising in Lhasa, says he wants autonomy for Tibet within China.

The cold shoulder from Japan is in stark contrast to the growing embrace of the Dalai Lama by Western countries.

Last month, the United States defied China’s protests and awarded the Dalai Lama the top congressional civilian honour.

Japan has uneasy ties with China, in part due to the legacy of Tokyo‘s aggression in its larger neighbour in the 1930s and 1940s.

Japanese leaders have been working to improve relations since they sank to rock bottom during the 2001-2006 premiership of Junichiro Koizumi. China is also Japan’s largest commercial partner, fuelling the economic recovery here. “Western democracies are able to disassociate human rights issues from their economic relationships with China. In that sense policies in countries like in Europe or the US are more mature than politics here,” Makino said.

This particular anime is quite popular in Japan, but wasn’t really marketed that well when it came to the Americas. So it isn’t exactly easy to stumble upon. But surprisingly it was for me.

I came across KKM not by magazine ad, nor commercial on other Geneon DVDs. Not even an online article. I came across it by randomly clicking a link on the late TV-links site. Honest to Odin, I closed my eyes, wiggled my mouse a bit and clicked, and this is what came up. I didn’t expect much out of it, but little did I know that my random act of boredom would bring me to know what now has to be my favourite anime to date.

Yuri Shibuya, the main character is a typical high school student. Loves baseball, doesn’t have many friends. And has an over the top, but loving and supportive mother (who at times, reminds me of my own to the point it’s scary). He one day finds another student, by the name of Murata Ken, being bullied by a few older students. He tries to stick up for him, but ends up being carried to the girls bathroom and magically flushed down a toilet.

My initial thought was “Wtf??” but of course, such a wacky, unexpected start intrigued me and I kept watching. And peeing my pants laughing.

Through the toilet he finds he’s been transported to a new world, where an obsessive adviser, loyal knight, a jealous fiancée, and a whole kingdom of strange followers await his arrival to become the new Maou of the land.

Now the first episode got me hooked, but if that doesn’t do it for you, the second is even more outrageous than the last. Then if you don’t like it still, then I’m sorry D: so sad.

It’s labeled as a Shoujo… but Guys would get just as big of a kick out it as us girls. There isn’t much guy/guy relationships. The one that develops between Wolfram and Yuri is by accidental proposal, and mostly just as a joke. There’s no naked guy on guy, not even a kiss, barely a hug. Yuri’s in denial most of the time, so don’t worry about any of that. To prove it, when I get the DVDs I’m sitting down and making a guy friend watch it with me, and I’ll post his reaction.

So for anyone who wants a good balance of comedy, fantasy, and good plot, and unique blend of characters. Kyou Kara Maou is something worth checking out. I love it because it’s got my sense of humour. It can be those kinds of simple, silly jokes where if it gets to you, you’re laughing for ten minutes. But it also has a mixture of rude jokes that end up being funny without making you feel uncomfortable.

I am also an otaku. I’ve been for about the same amount of time as Yu, maybe a little less. But that doesn’t mean I have any more of life than her! I suppose you could say I’m in my 17th year in Homeschool, and I also enjoy Roleplaying, Drawing, collecting figures. Also video games, and cosplay (of course)

Watch out now, I may just be the monster sent to eat all of your souls D<

I first came across Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu when I watched a very randomized inside joke video on Youtube. They had parts Hare Hare Yukai many times and I wondered, “Thats catchy, wonder what its from.” That was about a year ago. Then early January I went to Japan Town and found a CD with that same girl all over it! So I just had to get it and that was when I was introduced to Haruhi.

Well I’ve gotta say, from the beginning I was hooked. It had well developed characters, a new storyline and of course [what every successful anime needs], a catchy OP and ED. But if anyone asked what it was or what it was about there was absolutely NO way for me to explain. Aliens, espers, time travelers? Out of order episodes?

So the first episode gives away the undeniable truth that this series isn’t normal. We’re stuck face to face with a ‘class made’ video. I loved the idea of this [since it was anime after all]. They even made their own theme song that Mikuru sung [and rather poorly may I add]. At the end of watching a truly low budget film, and hearing endless narration from Kyon, you see the main character Haruhi and the group of the SOS Brigade. Heh, lets make another one next year, huh gang?

Overall, there aren’t many out of ‘otaku’ who don’t enjoy Haruhi. Even if its just for the ending dance. Huh, go figure.
